Parliamentary debating is the jewel in the crown of GUU Debates. Parliamentaries are a rowdy mock up of the House of Commons where five fictional parties or ‘Clubs’ fight it out over the course of the year for political supremacy. From wacky communism to ‘godly’ conservatism, speakers toss aside their personal opinions in a battle of rhetoric to claim the crown for their club, even if it means advocating something as crazy as the recolonisation of Australia! There are five debates a year and in each one, one of the five clubs gets to be in “government” and propose a Bill – three separate pieces of legislation which they want to implement, which are then debated by all the clubs throughout the day.
We have had three of these Parliamentary Debates already but there are still two left to get involved in. Come along to one of the Pre-Debates where the Bill is revealed, and join one of the Clubs or just come to see the action and heckle at one of the Debates!
