The kind of debating that takes up most of our time at the Union is Inter Varsity (IV) debating against other Universities. It's in this kind of debating that we've been World Champions five times.
The technical name for this is British Parliamentary style debating. This has four teams of two speakers who form the proposition and opposition to a motion. These debates usually take place either in our internal competitions or at tournaments at other universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Princeton or Istanbul. But we also go to major international competitions like the World and European Championships and this lets our speakers travel everywhere from Dublin to Berlin, Kuala-Lumpur, Singapore, Johannesburg, New York, Cork, Athens, Melbourne, Sydney, Toronto… the destinations are endless.
