Board of Management • Glasgow University Union

THE EXECUTIVE

The President

Colin Woods

The President is the figurehead of the Union. He chairs board meetings, liaises with the University and is the elected spokesperson for the media. In addition, the President works closely with the Honorary Secretary to oversee the daily running of the Union, communicating between the Board of Management and staff. It is his job to make sure that the membership is represented by the Board of Management, so if you have any suggestions or complaints about the place, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Colin is studying Accountancy and has been at the University of Glasgow since 2007. He is originally from Killin in central Scotland, and went to school in Calendar. Colin is an avid fan of skiing and has competed for the University ski team, GUSSC, since 1st year. He also enjoys Golf, Football and Parliamentary Debates; although he hasn’t enjoyed much success in any of them.

Honorary Secretary

Christopher Sibbald

From Freshers' Week to Daft Friday, elections to being the license holder of the building, Chris oversees it all. On top of all this, he also has to deal with discipline cases, function bookings and just about everything else that is thrown his way by the President.

Chris can be compared to a chameleon, one day he shall be eating gross things in Iron Stomach; the next, he shall be walking around with a cigar in one hand and whisky in the other: a debater, and passionate lover of Virtua Tennis.

Asst Honorary Secretary

Rory Smith

The Assistant Honorary Secretary is the third member of the Executive Committee, his official role is to look after the interests of the rest of the Board, maintaining their efficiency and ensuring they are happy in their various roles, this extends to ensuring their Conduct is satisfactory and their behaviour is fitting that of a board member. He also takes care of the Affiliation of Clubs and Societies to the Union. Rory Smith has been labelled a country-gentleman - a euphemism for backwards if ever there was one - as he hails from the only area in the British Isles yet to receive a colour-television signal: rural Aberdeenshire. Having made it to the Big-Smoke Rory is facing the dangerous situation of becoming a perpetual-student, though if his student loan ever runs out he could always sell one of his fine collection of wax jackets.

The Convenor of Entertainments at the GUU is Craig Angus, a third year English and Scottish Literature student from Perth. The Ents convenor is responsible for running the Open Mic nights, Comedy nights, all band nights, and for sourcing and booking the DJ’s that play the Hive. Craig has an unhealthy addiction to the games machines in the Beer Bar, driven by the distant dream of ‘beating the banker’. Craig enjoys music, the National Geographic (for the free maps) and watches an episode of Brass Eye every day.

Convenor of Games

David Birrell

The Convenor of Games could, for all intents and purposes, be renamed the "Fun Convenor" because David's job is to make sure you have a cracking time. Throughout the year he puts on an array of competitions, particular mention to the hotly attended Monday Night Beer Bar Quiz. However, February is when he puts on the real show, hosting the ludicrous Month of Games, with all the drinking and unadulterated fun that can be crammed into four weeks.

David is a 2nd year student from Fife and is studying Mechanical Engineering. He likes a mild array of sport from time to time where his career has peaked as KIT BOY for the Uni tennis club. He's often found sipping a beautiful pint of T in the beer bar and enjoys playing instruments and listening to Chopin concertos.
