The President is the figurehead of the Union. He chairs board meetings, liases with the University and is the elected spokesperson for the media. In addition, Dom works closely with Nicola to oversee the daily running of the Union, communicating between the Board of Management and staff. It is his job to make sure that the membership are represented by the Board of Management, so if you have any suggestions or complaints about the place, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Dom is studying a Masters in Exercise Science, has lived in Glasgow all his life and loves to cook. He is an avid football fan who has recently been drawn in by rugby; and, on the tennis court, is quite proud of his topspin forehand, but very little else... He is fond of Virtua Tennis and Big Buck Hunter, and never says no to a dance-off!
From Freshers' Week to Daft Friday, elections to being the license holder of the building, Nicola oversees it all. On top of all this, she also has to deal with discipline cases, function bookings and just about everything else that is thrown her way by the President. Nicola is a 4th year student in Psychology. Nic loves socialising and meeting new people.
Sheelagh is a 5th year Law student from Cupar in Fife. Her hobbies include sleeping, skiing, cooking, painting and procrastinating. After finals, Sheelagh hopes to spend the summer relaxing in the sun reading books that aren't about law!
The Libraries Convenor is in charge of the Unions' two libraries – The Bridie and Elliot. Anya also heads up the libraries committee who are responsible for producing our fortnightly in-house publication the GUUi. Anya is in 3rd year studying English Literature and Politics. She is a qualified life guard (although she hates swimming) and her collection of fancy dress costumes is second to none.
The Ents Convenor is responsible for running Open Mic, our Tuesday Comedy Nights and scouting the best DJs from the UK to play in the HIVE. Martyn is from Dundee and studies Business and Management. His hobbies include rugby and swimming. He likes to think of himself as a bit of a poker hustler. After Uni, Martyn hopes to join the army.
The Convenor of Games could, for all intents and purposes, be renamed the "Fun Convenor" because Ben's job is to make sure you have a cracking time. Throughout the year he puts on an array of competitions, particular mention to the hotly attended Monday Night Beer Bar Quiz. However, February is when he puts on the real show, hosting the ludicrous Month of Games, with all the drinking and unadulterated fun that can be crammed into four weeks. Ben is a Chemistry student from Ayr and a bit of an extreme sportsman, with snowboarding and mountain biking on his list of hobbies.
