Get Involved

The Union is quite simply one of the greatest places on earth, and it’s our members that make it so – not just by drinking and socialising here, but by running the place as well!

All members can have an input into the running of the Union by joining the numerous committees or running for election to the Board of Management.

It’s hard work, but extremely rewarding, and you’ll meet and befriend an incredible amount of people into the bargain! Interested? Here’s how to get involved…

Committees

Between them, the debates, games, entertainments and libraries committees are responsible for operations on the ground from week to week, running all of the Union’s regular events. Whether you fancy yourself as an enthusiastic host of the biggest events on campus, or simply have creative flair and an eye for detail, these guys would love your help! So feel free drop by and ask for them at the Porters' Box or simply drop them an email.

Our PR Team will be looking for new, enthusiastic members at the beginning of first term, so if you want to get involved, pick up a form at the Porters' Box or send an email to psm@guu.co.uk, we'd love to hear from you!

Board of Management

If the bigger picture is more your thing, then the Board of Management could be for you.

This seventeen-strong body hold the Union pursestrings, and make the decisions on how best to improve the Union for the membership in the future. Whilst on the Board of Management, you’ll pick up a great deal of useful knowledge on the ins and outs of business, and will have the opportunity to oversee all sorts of projects such as the renovation of entire bars and the launching of promotional campaigns, events and club nights.

Elections to the Board of Management are held annually on the first Thursday of March. For further information, please contact Nicola Wilkinson, honsec@guu.co.uk.

If your keen to get involved, we will be running a Committees' Fair during the course of the first term. Stay tuned for more details.
